City walk, museum and shopping
The walking route described takes you past Dordrecht's finest monuments. Museum Huis van Gijn was the home of the nineteenth-century collector Simon van Gijn. The rooms are in the original style and contain unique collections, including furniture, prints, porcelain, toys, glass and silver. The renovated Dordrechts Museum seduces visitors with an outstanding collection of Dutch paintings from 1600 to today: Aelbert Cuyp, the painters of the nineteenth century, Ary Scheffer, Rembrandt's pupils from Dordrecht.
Biesbosch and Rotterdam
If you take the Waterbus from the Merwekade, you rapidly enter the nature reserve 'De Biesbosch'. The Biesbosch centre rents canoes and rowing boats and organises boat trips. There are also opportunities to take walks. Or sail from the historic centre of Dordrecht to the contemporary centre of Rotterdam. Bikes travel for free on the Waterbus.
