Description

Huis Van Gijn is the former residence of the banker, lawyer and collector Simon van Gijn, who lived there from 1864 with his spouse Cornelia Vriesendorp. A large part of the house is still intact and furnished as it was at the time. It seems like the Van Gijn's could come home any minute.

The Vriesendorpsalon, the dining room and the Tapijtenzaal (carpet hall) reflect the luxury of upper-class life. What was the working day of a maid like? What was on the menu? And how do you lay a table? A glimpse of the normal daily life of an upper-class family around 1900.
